William Casper Watson

Major (Ret.) William C Watson grew up in Marceline, Missouri, and was recruited to play football for the University of Missouri Tigers. Two weeks after playing in the 1942 Sugar Bowl, he entered the Army, and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam before ending his career after 26 years of service.

 

While in Korea, he was captured and held as a POW for 837 days. His leadership, negotiation and carpentry skills ultimately allowed him to build 300 bunk beds to keep his fellow POWs from having to sleep on the cold ground. 

 

After retiring, he continued his public service for eight years as the Mayor of Peculiar, Missouri.  He and his wife Fran are buried at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. 

John Joseph Corcoran

John Corcoran was born and raised in Chicago. After marrying his wife Alice in 1939, the couple moved to Cincinnati, where John put his calm nature to work as an air traffic controller.
